Origami House is a luxury private residence located in Oaraki designed to feel like a secluded coastal resort. A home that offered both privacy and expansive spaces for entertaining, with a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.
Conceived as a courtyard home, the residence features a metaphorical folded cloud hovering over a private garden. The sculptural upper floor, clad in bronze stainless steel, reflects and glows as the sun moves, modulating light and shadow throughout the day while casting shade over the courtyard and pool. The ground floor sits as a simple pavilion, flowing effortlessly from indoor spaces to outdoor entertaining areas. Bedrooms in the “cloud” above provide private retreats, separate from the vibrant communal spaces below.
A basement car-turntable accommodates six vehicles, keeping access discreet and unobtrusive. Interiors are arranged to balance openness for family and entertaining modes with privacy in retreat modes. Dark-stained cedar, bronze tones, and stone finishes add warmth and texture, complementing the sculptural exterior.
Origami House is a careful choreography of form, light, and space a residence that folds and unfolds across the site, balancing drama, privacy, and everyday living in equal measure.
