The site is located within the University of Auckland’s central city campus, which is in the process of constructing a new multi-million dollar recreation center on Symonds St in place of the existing one which has now been demolished.

The brief for this project was to design an interim indoor sports facility for a period of approximately 6 years - until the new building is complete. Court sports are an integral part of the UoA’s curriculum, therefore the need for an interim facility was of the highest priority.

The building responds to the clients brief by providing an innovative, simple, low cost, yet highly functional building. The building provides the necessary function for a much lessor cost compared to other typical sports courts facilities in Auckland.
